Jesus Calms the Storm<span class="crossreference" style="font-size: 0.9em; font-weight: normal; vertical-align: top;" value="(A)”><span class="crossreference" style="font-size: 0.9em; font-weight: normal; vertical-align: top;" value="(B)”>
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master,<span class="crossreference" style="font-size: 0.65em; font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(C)”> we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked<span class="crossreference" style="font-size: 0.65em; font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(D)”> the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.<span class="crossreference" style="font-size: 0.65em; font-weight: bold; vertical-align: top;" value="(E)”>25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.” Luke 8:22-25
I just love this story! I can so relate to the disciples. Since JESUS was with them in the flesh I often think how could they forget so quickly! But, here I am the same way and Holy Spirit lives inside of me!
Since some of the disciples were fishermen they were very aware of what could happen in bad weather. When the storm came up they envisioned their lives lost! How quickly they forgot JESUS words, “Let’s go to the other side.” They had already been assured of their safety. They already had the promise. When JESUS asked them where their faith was He was saying in essence, “Don’t you remember we are going to the other side?” He wasn’t concerned about the storm, the chaos or the disciples emotional distress. JESUS was aware there was ministry to be done on the other side! (Luke 8:26-39)
What has the LORD promised you that in the storm you’ve forgotten? When the waves were raging and hope appeared to be gone did you lose faith? Grab hold of what the LORD has said is yours, what He has said you can have! No matter how long it’s been or what the middle has looked like GOD is faithful!!
Another part of this story that stood out to me is that the disciples weren’t amazed with the power demonstrated when the wind and waves calmed. They were amazed at the authority of JESUS words! You see, when He said, “Let’s go to the other side.” He had authority to make sure they got there– nothing could stand in their way, not even the weather!
Look back on the promises! Believe what GOD has said! Take authority over the storm and get to the other side. Ministry is waiting ~ there is somebody that needs to hear your testimony of how you made it to the other side!
