I love the hope that is found in the truth that we have a new heart thus we can be assured of having good soil. Therefore, when we hear the Word it will begin to take root, grow and produce a harvest. “But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the Word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty and some thirty.” Matthew 13:23
This gives hope and assurance, that if we will not give up, we will have a bountiful harvest because God has given us a new heart in which the seed will grow and mature. Knowing this should boost our faith to press in and contend for the harvest. I believe Romans 8:5-6 gives what we need to do to keep the “weeds” from chocking out our seed and hindering our harvest. “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
We have good soil, but we can’t let the weeds from worldly thoughts and desires grow. We have to take those weedy seeds captive! We must cast them down and refuse to think on them. Our focus must be turned toward God’s Truth, the things of the Spirit. As we allow God’s Word to mature until it is not just something we’ve heard but it is something we understand, we will surely have a harvest of life and peace!
