Sometimes when I hear things from the Lord I record them and just go back to them from time to time. At other times when the Lord speaks, I will repeatedly hear the words and know there is some deeper meaning He desires to unfold for me. It’s never a good idea to just assume we know what God is speaking to us when He speaks. It’s wise to always ask Him for an explanation because only He knows the fullness of what He spoke.
A few days ago I sensed God wanting to speak to me and as I tuned in I heard, “There’s breakthrough in the breakthrough.” At the time I could see many areas in my life as well as within my church where there had been many breakthroughs. But what did “breakthrough in the breakthrough” really mean.
I asked the Lord right away what He meant and began to ponder on it. As I waited for what He would say I saw a seed being planted in tilled soil. I began to understand how the soil of our hearts must be tilled and prepared to receive the seed God desires to plant in our hearts.
That seed then became a plant as it broke through the soil. That’s the first breakthrough. The seed broke open so that what was inside could grow. This was done in secret, in the darkness of the soil. In this place, nothing is noticeable above ground, but the little seed has started to move from its dormant seed state. The seed broke open so it could break through.
When the plant has broken through the soil, it’s labor isn’t done. The plant must remain in the good soil, ever receiving the proper nutrients. It must also bear the heat of the sun and be willing to be rained on in order for continued growth to happen. It must submit to the pruning of the Gardner, who knows best how to help the plant have the most successful harvest.
The plant then begins to flower and it appears so beautiful in bloom. But the bloom is only preparation for the breakthrough that was in the breakthrough when the seed first sprouted. Because from the bloom the fruit of the plant breaks forth. This fruit is not for the plant; it is for others to enjoy and be nourished.
What seeds have been planted in your good soil? Are you willing for the sun to beat down, the rains to come and for the Gardener to prune you? Flowers are pretty but they are fleeting. The produce from the seed contains nourishment and seed for others. My hope is that we try to make sure our seeds are the type that nourishes others for good. With that in mind, perhaps now the sun beating down won’t seem so oppressive but rather a needed aspect for a mature harvest. Maybe the pounding of the rain will be welcomed as the focus is on the breakthroughs rather than the journey to the breakthrough. There’s breakthrough in your breakthrough— if you don’t give up! ………………….John 15:1-17
