To Love Like Jesus

Today I want to present some ways Jesus handled things. He modeled how we are to live. I know I need His grace to be able to live as He lived. We may fail at times but if we never decide to take up our cross and follow Him our lives will never reflect Him.

In Luke 19:41 It says Jesus wept over Jerusalem. In Luke 13:14 Jesus says how He longed to gather the children of Jerusalem even as a mother hen gathers her chicks— but they were unwilling. Jerusalem rejected Jesus yet He had compassion on them. He still longed to touch them and do miracles there.

A good question to ponder is, “Do I have compassion on those who’ve rejected me?”

John writes in chapter 6 that Jesus knew from the beginning who would betray Him. That statement alone is enough to ponder. Jesus knew who would betray Him yet, He taught him, ate with him, and even trusted him to minister. Yet we know that He never communicated that to any of His other disciples because when He said, “One of you is a devil.” (John 6:70) The disciples began to talk among themselves asking who He meant.

Have you ever considered, ” Could I love like that?” 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV) says, “Love covers a multitude of sins.” That means when you love you don’t talk about people’s weaknesses.

In Luke 23:34 as Jesus was dying on the cross He said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” Jesus didn’t wait to offer forgiveness. He asked His Father to forgive them while His emotions were still raw and His pain was intense.

It’s good for us to ponder on, “Can I forgive like that? Not when the pain has subsided but in the midst of it?”

Easter will soon be here and as we think about how Jesus lived, died, and rose again these are just a few examples, out of the many He left us, to reflect on during this Easter season.
