The Vessel

Isaiah 64:8 reads, “Yet You, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, You are the Potter; we are all the work of Your hand.”

In my last post I wrote about the process clay goes through in order to become a vessel of honor fit for the Master’s use (2 Timothy 2:21). Today I want to look at the next step; the step when the vessel has went through the process and is ready for the purpose for which it was created.

We were all created with a purpose. As God was knitting us together in our mother’s womb He was adding all the ingredients we would need to become all He desired us to be. We arrive in this world filled with potential but it is only as we yield to the Potter that we become the vessel He always knew we could be. As we yield to the Potter we become more then we could have ever imagined.

In our own strength we can never imagine or reach our full potential. But when we partner with and yield to our Creator we find we are infinitely more fulfilled. That’s because He understands what is within our DNA for He placed it there. Have you ever gotten a new gadget and tried to figure out all the new features? Maybe you feel you are really getting the hang of it all but then you read some in the owners manual where you realize there are even more features. The company who designed your gadget knew the features were there all along. The features were detailed in the manual just waiting to be discovered! So it is when we read our Manual, called God’s Word, we can discover more details of who we are and how we can live a fulfilled life.

In our journey sometimes we may look at other Believers and think we would like to be a Vessel like them because their ministry for the Lord appeals to us in some way. Have you ever thought, “I wish I could do_____________ like so and so”? We enjoy listening to anointed worship and teaching/preaching. We are seeing a Vessel pouring out. We don’t see so much the process they went through to become that Vessel. Their process prepares them for what they were created to do. Your process will prepare you for what you were created to do. The truth is God was never into duplicates but He was very much into uniqueness. Only you can be the Vessel God designed you to be!

I repeat, only you can be the Vessel God designed you to be. You will never find lasting fulfillment, peace or contentment trying to be the Vessel that is someone else. No matter how shiny someone else’s vessel appears it is only in being the Vessel you are meant to be that will bring contentment to life. That’s because that shiny Vessel doesn’t have your uniqueness (it is uniqueness that adds value to anything and YOU are one of a kind!!).

There is only one expression of YOU in this world. We may all have similar experiences but no two people have all the same experiences nor do we react exactly to the shared experiences we have. That’s because God wanted the expression of YOU. God smiled and said, “Yes, this Vessel is perfect for this place and time. I will create it!”

Are you embracing the vessel that is YOU? Are you asking God, the Master Potter, to help you be all He created YOU to be?

Never forget: Only YOU can be the Vessel God designed you to be!!
