Behind the Veil

Recently the Lord said to me, “Look behind the veil.” His words were the kind of words that continue to resonate long after you hear them. Just four words, yet packed with meaning, lessons, and invitations.

The Tabernacle has always been fascinating to me. I’ve studied It’s deep symbolism and mystery. So, when I heard, “Look behind the veil.” I knew I had an invitation to seek out the mystery. In Exodus 40:26 we learn that the Golden Altar in the Holy Place was in front of the veil that led to the Most Holy Place (Holy of Holies). This is the same veil that was torn in two, from top to bottom when Jesus died (see Matthew 27:51). This tearing of the veil signified that Jesus was the perfect sacrifice and we can now enter the Most Holy Place. (Before this the High Priest could enter only once a year to make atonement for the sins of the people.)

The Golden Altar was the place of prayer in front of the veil, only now the veil is torn in two. The veil represents what we see in the natural. Just as the priest would see a veil when he went to the Golden Altar to pray so we sometimes only see the natural. Because we only see the natural we pray about what we see. The Lord however is inviting us to, “Look behind the veil.” It is only when we look behind the veil that we see what God sees. His Presence was behind the veil. We can be close to the Lord (at the altar of prayer). We can sense His nearness (just beyond the veil). We can worship and pray to Him concerning all we see going haywire around us (in front of the veil). But, it is only when we look behind the veil that we can see what God is doing. When we look behind the veil we see where God is in the midst of the chaos. When we look behind the veil we have hope for we see His purpose and plan. The enemy’s plan will usually be loud as he desires to stir up fear and hopelessness. We may even find we are becoming fearful and losing hope. When we become aware of this we know–we are looking at the veil instead of behind it. Sometimes we have to ask God to open our eyes to see what He is doing so we can pray in agreement with Him. He loves to share what He is doing for He laughs at the enemy and His plans.

I encourage you to accept the invitation today and join me in looking behind the veil and come into agreement with what God is doing and all He desires to do in this season. Let’s agree with God both in prayer and in our conversations!
