Praying According to Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious….. to be anxious means to worry or be afraid. In the New Testament the word carries the idea of being overly concerned and it can also imply a sense of distraction.
In EVERY situation, by prayer…… Bring your concerns to God, in other words talk, communicate with God about your anxious thoughts. It’s okay to tell God how you feel. God gave us our feelings and emotions, but sometimes our feelings may not be truthful with us. But, it’s still important to talk it out with the Lord. It’s important to express our emotions and prayer is a safe place because God always cares.
And petition…….. Tell God what you want or need, be very specific, and fervent with emotion and zeal. Praying with emotion and zeal gives expression to the magnitude of our need before the Lord. Sometimes God is waiting on us to be specific. Our petition must always line up with God’s Word.
With thanksgiving…. Our thanksgiving is like the seal on our prayer. We offer thanks to God about anything good in our situation. We can always be grateful for His goodness and kindness to look upon us mere humans to extend His compassion. This is where we see our Father as the biggest and the best with all the resources to meet the needs of His beloved child.

- With thanksgiving present your requests. What can you be thankful for? Can you see Your Father as loving and kind and thank Him for His kindness?
- Now that you’ve presented your request, take a few minutes to sit quietly before the Lord. Write out anything the Lord speaks to you.
